The TDA Group Captures Publishing Award for IBM

Western Publications Association honors Silicon Valley marketing
communications firm for custom publication

Los Altos, CA—May 15, 2003
The TDA Group, a full-service marketing communications firm specializing in high-tech clients, announced today that it has won a prestigious Maggie Award for TotalStorage Solutions (TSS), an IBM newsletter produced by the firm. Held annually by the Western Publications Association (WPA), the Maggie competition promotes the pursuit of excellence among publishing professionals by honoring those publishers whose work is deemed “the best of the West” in a wide variety of categories within the publishing industry.

This year’s Maggie Award, granted in the newsletter category, is the second that The TDA Group and IBM have received for TSS. The custom newsletter also earned a Maggie Award in 2002 for excellence in editorial and design. The TSS winning streak includes two other recent industry accolades. The Society for Technical Communication (STC) honored TSS in its 2003 Touchstone competition, granting it the Distinguished Technical Publication—the highest of three STC award levels and one which is bestowed only on those publications that demonstrate truly outstanding communication. In 2002, the Northern California Business Marketing Association (Norcal BMA) honored TSS with a Bronze Beacon award.

TSS is one of many custom newsletters and magazines that The TDA Group produces for its corporate clients. These publications help businesses to increase their brand awareness and position themselves as thought leaders in their industries. To create this award-winning newsletter, The TDA Group provided IBM with complete publishing services including editorial, design, production, and ad sales.

IBM uses TSS to create a sense of community for IBM storage customers and provide IT professionals with up-to-date information about IBM storage products and their real-world uses. Storage technology, which enables users to access information at any time from any location, has emerged as an essential element of corporate data centers. “Connecting the enterprise is critical in today’s competitive economic climate,” says Carol Decker, program manager for the IBM Systems Group and editor-in-chief of TSS. “Businesses must create consolidated access to information to improve productivity and raise the bottom line. We feel that this award recognizes the ability of TotalStorage Solutions to help our readers achieve this goal by providing the most current information in the best manner possible.”

The Maggie competition evaluated the TSS March 2002 issue for readability, editorial quality, and design. The newsletter surpassed four other finalists to win. To view the list of winners and see the cover of TotalStorage Solutions, visit www.wpa-online.org and select “Maggie Winners.”
